Harvest Moon

Up in the country at my BIL farm on Wednesday, Sept 18,  I got a beautiful shot of the harvest moon.

According to internet research, the full moon is called Harvest Moon because many fruits and vegetables tend to ripen in late summer and early fall in the Northern Hemisphere.  In the days before electricity, the farmer relied on moons light to harvest crops.

Another word I found was  "full moon corn".

That song "Shine On, Shine On Harvest Moon" makes so much more sense now.

Shine on, shine on harvest moon up in the sky
I ain't had no lovin since Jan, Feb, June or July
 Snow time ain't no time
to stay outdoors and spoon
So shine on shine on
Harvest moon for me and my gal.

Linking with BLUE MONDAY

Great photo and the blue sky is a lovely shade. It could have been taken in my place, Indiana, with those corn stalks. Wishing you a great week!

Hi Ann

Great minds think alike - lovely to see your harvest moon (great shot too) and to learn more about the history. Them 'twer the days when the farmers needed the moon's light to harvest rather than having light pollution.
Have a great week

Hello Ann,
It's my first visit to you and Happy Blue Monday but I'm having such fun.
It's great to nip around the globe with such ease. I've been travelling for 24 years and this is so much easier ;D
It was an incredible Harvest Moon wasn't it. I captured it too. It was stunning lighting up all the farmers fields with the wheat bales.
That's a great photo.
Have a great week and thanks for nipping over to my place earlier.
xoxo

I love your Harvest Moon pic Ann. Interesting to read the words to that song and give it a different meaning now. Smile.
I am late with my comment but life just gets in the way sometimes.

Happy Blue Monday.
