Ikea

Today was my first trip to the new IKEA here in Kansas City. I'ts been open for one month but I have waited to avoid all the lines until today. My grandchildren were out of school today so we made a fun girls trip. Had lunch in the restaurant there too.

The store is about 1 mile from my home--so close. Christmas season will sure be busy I'm sure.!!!!

The restaurant is nice and big, reasonable prices, I had salmon with croquettes and lemon sauce.
The girls had Swedish Meatballs and Chicken Fingers.

I saw a rug for my sewing room in their catalog but wanted to see it in person. I decided that I really wanted to buy it.

I'll be leaving my shoes at the door!!

K is for keys, knobs and knick-knackatory

What do you collect? Are you knick-knacktory? Knick-knacktory is a collection of knick-knacks.
KNICK-KNACKS are any small trivial articles usually intended for ornamental use.

Well I love old antique KEYS and I'm always looking for a way to display them.  Also one my favorite items are vintage/glass door KNOBS.

I had a metal base frame so I attached a KNOB onto it and hung a few of my KEYS for decoration.

Here is a sample of my collection of KEYS:

Thanks to Mrs. Nesbitt and Roger for their efforts to keep this great meme going each week.

Garage Flip

I just finished a new project for my sewing room.   I saw this old fan my hubby had in his garage last month and he was planning on throwing it out. I SAID HOLD ON A MINUTE.  I envision a very cool seat.

Here is the before:

My new sewing room has turquoise trim so I thought it would be a great color for the fan too.

And the fan still works very well.

There is a lid to the fan --- so perfect for upholstery.  We cut plywood and then used foam and batting before the final upholstery fabric. Worked perfect to attach the top. Don't you love the fabric--pink and turquoise to match all the furniture in my room!!

After I find a rug that I like and a new window treatment I will be done. I'm ready to start sewing some winter clothes, maybe a new coat!!!

J is for Jubilee

Jubilee is defined as a special anniversary of an event, one celebrating twenty-five or fifty years of a reign or activity.

We have some friends who just celebrated their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary!!!!

Gold is the color usually associated with Golden Wedding Anniversary and there was a lot of gold to go around.

The marriage renewal ceremony was at Pilgram Chapel, a church on the National Register of Historic Places here in Kansas City.

A clarinet player played  as Ruthie and Jim walked down the isle. He only looks like Kenny G.
The lighting in the chapel was limited so the photos are a little grainy from my phone.

 The happy couple.

The reception at a country club in the city.

My hubby and I with Ruthie and Jim.

There was a wonderful dinner and lots of beautiful music. A jubilant jubilee.

Blue Monday - wall preview

Today is a new work week again and I'm posting with BLUE MONDAY.  Sally puts on a good show of  blue--check it out.

I have been in the process of re-doing my sewing/craft room for a month or so and I now have the trim and cork boards painted.

I went with a turquoise blue and I LOVE the shade.  The walls are a pale grey and the colors complement each other so nicely.

I chose one wall for some vintage photos and the other has not been decided on yet-it will probably change quite a bit.

A close up of the trim.

I is for iconoscope

Where would be today without the invention of the ICONOSCOPE,  a camera tube?? It is an electron scanning tube and makes our viewing possible for television.

Wickipedia has the entire history of the first ICONOSCOPE invented in the early 1900's.

I looked for a picture of a early television set our family had  and found this one circa 1957 of one of my MIL's sets and this one has my husband and his cousin in front--they were dressed up for something.

Notice the rabbit ears?  It was probably an RCA or Philco set.

Did you have a similar one? What programs did you watch?  Of course you had three channels and had to get up and turn the knob!

Hubby says he remembers Sky King, The Lone Ranger, Amos and Andy and the Real McCoys. He used to go home from school and watch them.

Of all the monumental moments I remember was the coverage of President Kennedy's funeral.  And what about that walk on the moon in 1969!

My hubby and I bought a color TV in 1967 from Montgomery Ward and when my Mom and Dad came to visit us they were convinced they needed one too.

What a phenomenal change since then, what with every little gadget you can view anything you want at any time!!!

Thanks go out to Mrs. Nesbitt and Roger for this wonderful weekly party.  Linking with ABC WEDNESDAY

I'm Late, I'm Late for a very important date

As the White  Rabbit says "I'm late, I'm late for a very important date. But late is better than never posting your designated letter.

For letter H this week I am featuring a character from my favorite Lewis Carroll book written in 1865,  Alice in Wonderland. I enjoy every character but my favorite is the HATTER.

He's called the MAD HATTER, but that name does not appear in the book by Carroll. Hatta  is also an alias for HATTER.  The Cheshire cat calls the HATTER "mad" in chapter 7, "A Mad Tea Party". It is assumed this is where MAD HATTER originated.

I really wish that ladies would wear HATS here in the U.S. more, it's just so elegant.

I do have a way to wear HATS though, I belong to the Red Hats and I have several hats.

I took pictures of all my hats and have done some organizing for my closet.

A box for each hat with the picture that matches. This will make finding the one I want to wear easier.

Chandelier

Every girl wants a chandelier doesn't she?  On a trip to a flea market this past Friday I found several treasures for my newly decorated (in the process) sewing room.

I'm decorating the room in a pale gray for the walls and turquoise and pink accessories.

I found this really cute turquoise chandelier for my room.

Taping and speckling the walls today and painting tomorrow.  Can't wait to have more pictures to share.
