FALL FINDINGS CIGAR BOX SWAP

BIG REVEAL DAY!!!!!

Karen @http://somedaysarediamonds-karen.blogspot.com/ was hostess for this swap.  She did a fabulous job putting this all together. It was so much fun getting to know our partner, checking out all of her likes and interests.

My swap partner was Oliva @http://olivascreativequest.blogspot.com/.  She is a blogerette who makes beautiful handmade greeting cards, her work is just phenomenol.  She sets a beautiful table, does a lot of baking,  She loves tussies, collects charming tails and is a rooster fan.  She is a member of the Red Hat Society like me.

She sent me the most beautiful box ever. The workmanship was over the top:

It was full of wonderful items.  First is an adorable Halloween hanging picture.
Another adorable picture.

A set of eight beautiful Autumn handmade cards:

Mulling brew for spiced cider, candy corn in a cute little mini jar.

So many tags, emblishments for my tag making and scrapbooking.

This was a fabulous box filled with wonderful things, it was a joy to unwrap all my beautiful things.

Thank you Karen for hosing and Oliva for being a great swap partner.

Vintage Thingie Thursday - F.W. Woolworth Department Store

http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/  Joining Suzanne for todays Vintage Thingie Thursday.

How many of you remember the F.W. Woolworth Department Store in your hometown?  Boy I do, on any given Saturday, Mom, me and my sisters would get dressed up (I mean dresses, heels, gloves, purses to match) take the bus to Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City and shop.

Sometimes we would eat at the Woolworth counter, shop at Montgomery Ward's or J.C. Penney. Oh boy what memories.   I was sent this menu a few weeks ago in an e-mail.

This would have been around 1957 to 1960.  Coke is still my FAV.

Here's a photo of what Minnesota Avenue looked like in the day.

The only company still in business is J C Penney. The block now houses the police department and various offices, the buildings are still there.

Now we have hugh shopping malls, not with the same charm.

But I still have such great memories of these days. Hope you enjoyed my bit of nostalgia.

Here is a few.

We also have been searching for the perfect pumkin to carve.

We're enjoying the pumpkins--getting the halloween candy ready.

Newest endeavor - woodworking

I stepped out of my confort zone again and started another class.  I am taking woodworking classes at the Woodworkers Guild here,  Our first project was a cutting board, I finished it last night.

There are 10 men and 5 women in our class.  There are probably 10 or 11 power machines we are learning to operate. This took a miter saw, planer,  belt sander, band saw and a router.

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, the next project is a corner shelf about 12" high.

Ladies, you really do a lot of things you don't think you can.

VINTAGE THINGIE THURSDAY - 11 YEAR OLD ARTWORK

When I attended a vacation bible school at the age of 11, I painted this chalkware Holland Boy.  I remember giving this to my grandmother.  As I have said numerous times she kept EVERYTHING.   Years later she gave it back to me.  I know the art leaves much to be desired but I cherish the fact that she wrote on the back.

I have this hanging in my crafts room.

Please remember to date all those treasures your children and grandchildren give you.  It  will really mean so much in the years to come.

PINK SATURDAY - WENDY WARD

It's our special day to shine again. Every Saturday Beverly invites us to participate in Pink Saturday over at How Sweet the Sound.

Do you remember Wendy Ward?  She was the head of a charm school run by the old Montgomery Ward Departement Store.  When I was 16, a friend of mine and I took this charm school course at the local store. We did local modeling and learned to be refined ladies. I think we should initiate something like this today.

I have lost my book but awhile back I found this on Ebay and snatched it up.  I love all the PINK illustrations. See what you think!!

It looks like PINK has always been linked to demure women.

In the back of the book it included little cards for you to use.  They reminded you to be mindful of others, do things special for friends.

I hope I am following this principles in my blogging.  Have a special day dear pinkies.
