Clef note

Letter C is for Clef-the musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes.  My husband is a guitarist and has books and sheet music, guitars, amplifiers and music stands filling our sunroom. We really need to build a music room for all of it.

If you have read my blog you also know is a skilled woodworker.  This past year a fellow member of my choir at church asked if I thought my hubby could build a CLEF bookshelf for her Son who was getting his degree from college in music.

After searching through pictures of Clef notes he decided on a certain style.  With NO plans, he came up with this shelf.  Here he is with the unpainted and unattached shelf.

Here is the final picture of the shelf painted and attached to the wall in the apartment of the gift recipient.

You can see there is plenty of space for CD's, books galore. He was ecstatic with his graduation gift!!!

Needing some color

After the holidays I think we all need some added color to our homes.  It may be a little early for Valentine decorating but I've decided its not too early for me.

I just rearranged some things in my house, took this shelf from an extra bedroom and added it to a blank kitchen wall.  Added a few of my vintage pieces and some vintage valentines.

Some pinks to cheer up my "winter season".

This little card was sent to me by my Secret Pal in the 1970's.

A valentine my daughter  received in elementary school (yes I keep everything).

I found this beautiful Valentine card in a 1920's yearbook I purchased at an antique store.

Do you feel the love?

Fruit stand

In an effort to organize my kitchen as I am cooking at home much more this new year, I made a stand for the counter to hold fruits and vegetables.

These were more popular in times past, there are some available in antique stores at times but I wanted to make one like I had seen on Pinterest.

I found 2 metal dishes, some glass candle holders and a vintage silver serving tray.

I used my hot glue gun to attach all the pieces, I am still looking for a good glue that will adhere glass better.

After tidying up the counter, I added my fruit and vegetables.

I think altogether I spent around 8.00 for the whole project. Not too shabby.

Blogging Books

I have just begun my 5th year of blogging and it has been such a joy to share things that I care about.  Because I have put so much thought into my posts I wanted to put them in print.  I have posted over 600 posts in the past 4 years, I really don't know I came up with all these but it is so much fun looking through my books.

The books are 11" x 9" and you can choose from hardbound or softbound.  I have done both but this past year I did a hard back with a book cover.  The pages are glossy paper.

I use the company SharedBook but I'm sure there are others that offer this too.

Girls Holiday Outing

All the girls in our family that live here in our area try to take in a play and dinner for the holidays.

This year we met at a mexican restaurant we all like and then went to see "Beauty and the Beast". The musical was playing at the "Musical Hall" which is a beautiful theater.

Here I am with my beautiful daughter and grandchildren.

We had 2nd and 3rd row seats, such a fun girls night out.

Up, up and away

Each time we travel to Colorado we pass this pink Cadillac  (at least it looks like one to me) on the highway.  This year I had my camera out for quite awhile waiting to drive by it and snap a picture. We didn't remember exactly where it was.

Sorry for the poor quality.

Could be a service station or maybe a restaurant, we are always in such a hurry to keep on going we don't make any extra stops.

Another pink today is a picture of my Sis on her birthday--she had pink sprinkles on her ice cream cone.  We met at Chic-Filet for lunch.

Hope you all are enjoying the weekend, we are going to be watching college basketball and planning for Sunday services.

A is for .........

Beginning a new round of ABC Wednesday today and I thought I'd start at the beginning.

How many of you used blocks to learn your letters?  I can remember making words as a little girl with my ABC Blocks.

When I was elementary school we used a chart like this one:

Maybe :

At least they both start with APPLE.

Hamilton, Missouri

Another year of blogging has begun, I just printed my 4th book from Blog2Print.  I love the idea of have personal journals to keep for myself and my grandchildren.

Today for Blue Monday I am sharing a photo of  J.C. Penney's birthplace, Hamilton, Missouri.
I spent a day of quilt fabric shopping with my SIL here last summer.

The " Missouri Star Quilting Company" is an amazing store. I'm not a quilter but they have every fabric imaginable. They have a wonderful on-line store too for all you quilters.

There are numerous original buildings still there from when Mr. Penney lived there.  To see detail enlarge the photo.

Z is for Zone and Zip Codes

Today is the final letter of the current  round of ABC WEDNESDAY.  The word Zone came to mind  when Elvis sings about "no such zone".

Elvis is my favorite singer of all time, he could sing the whole white pages with every ZIP CODE and it would be wonderful.

.

ZIP is an acronym for ZONE IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

Robert Moon is the postal worker in 1944 who is credited with inventing the ZIP code.  He submitted a proposal but it wasn't  adopted until July 1960, at the time it was non-mandatory.

This is Mr. Zip, he was a advertizing character to encourage people to use Zip Codes to speed up the mail.

Zip is also a term meaning the mail "zipping along".

The Zip Code became mandatory in 1963, at the same time the 2 digit state abbreviation was initiated.

In 1983 the Zip + 4 digits was created for a delivery sector and in 1991- 2 more digits added for further location determinations.

Some interesting info:

There are 42,000 zip codes in the U.S.
The White House has it's own secret zip for the first family to receive private mail.
Arlington, Virginia's zip is 22222
90210 is the most well known Zip because of Beverly Hills 90210 and Dr. 90210
A fictitious zip code of 90909 was assigned for the Veronica Mars TV Series.

I really just touched the surface about all of the history and details concerning the ZIP CODES, there is so much to read in Wikipedia on how the states were assigned the numbers and lots of interesting facts.

BLUE SKY

When we were visiting Colorado for Thanksgiving we took a number of pictures to use on our photo Christmas card.

This is one of me enjoying the beautiful snow.  The sky is such a beautiful vivid blue.

This is the golf course that our Son plays at.  The beautiful mountains in the background.

Hope everyone is having a great winter--we are having record breaking cold here though with wind chills at -5 degees, no school tomorrow i'm thinking.

YES, ITS THE NEW YEAR

Nearing the end of this round of ABC Wednesday, Y is for Yes and Year.  We usually celebrate ringing in the new year with our two granddaughters with sparkling juice and wine. This year was no exception but its getting harder and harder for me to last until 12:00 midnight.

Here we are toasting with lots of laughing.

I'm looking forward to setting new goals for this new YEAR.
