Pony

P IS FOR PONY

While traveling in Amish country a few weeks ago, we drove by a one-room school house and pony's tied up outside.  It was such a  beautiful sight.

My Dad and MIL used to tell us of their times in elementary school and how they rode their horses to school in the 1920's and 30's.

Times have not changed in the Amish community and I couldn't resist taking a photo of these darling pony's just waiting for school to end and their owners to ride them home. Looks like some of the little ones rode along in the pull carts.

The brown and white pony was so cute.

Inside were grades 1-8 studying their Geography, Arithmetic and English, just like my MIL and father did 70 years ago.

Another thing I noticed was the fencing--not what you normally see.

Would you like living a simpler lifestyle?  I've considered that time and again and I just appreciate all my modern conveniences too much.

However, the older I get I do seem to be getting rid of some of my clutter and making the living spaces simpler to clean. Makes me appreciate more the things I really love.

SPOOKY

I'm sharing a spooky post today for Halloween this next week.  The beauty salon that I go to  is in an area that participates in a contest for all the businesses that decorate for Halloween.

This year they took first place!!

She's a hairy scarecrow, notice they put braids in her hair.

Also notice the pink butterfly on their building and the stars on the mannequin.

Hope you are enjoying a fun weekend, planning for all the trick-or-treaters.

Vintage Weekly Photo

Sharing with Vintage Weekly Photo again this week, I thought I'd share a picture of my Mom and her best friend in high school. They lived in Tulare, California.

My Mom is on the right.  They were going for a soda at a five and dime counter and someone had a camera.  I am SO HAPPY they did.   My Mom was around 17 years old.

O is for October colors

A wonderful weekend at the lake with lots of gorgeous turning of leaves of October.

My cousin and his wife and my hubby and I took a final trip of the season on his pontoon boat at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

A few  beautiful homes along the lake.

We stayed at a resort/campground for the weekend and was able to use the boat slip.

The mornings we had to use a coat on the water but the afternoons the sun shone and all we had to use was a sweatshirt.

Just a few more weeks of October color and then we will loose all of the leaves. We were glad we could spend the wonderful weekend outdoors.

Blue Monday

This weekend we traveled to the Ozarks with my cousin and his wife for a last ride on their pontoon boat to see the glorious fall colors. While we were there we located the cabin that my Dad built in 1957. So many memories flooded my cousin and I of summers long ago.

While at the resort we stayed at this "BATMAN BOAT" came floating in after being on the lake.
I would say it was at least 20-22 feet long. The artwork was beyond anything I've ever seen on a water vessel.

I took a couple of pictures close up so maybe you can pick out the detail.

We didn't ask any questions of the owner, several people we standing around staring.

I love the bat wings!!!

Gotham City was so vivid and beautifully painted.

HOLY BATMAN

Such a fun trip, will share color later.

November

ABC Wednesday has reached the letter N and my word is NOVEMBER.

In the ancient Roman calendar November was the ninth month - the name in Latin is  NOVEM meaning nine.

After other months were added NOVEMBER  kept the name.  NOVEMBER is autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere, so we are experiencing come gorgeous colors here.

November is the host for many National Causes and Days.

NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL BLOG POSTING MONTH--I never realized we bloggers have our own month!!!     NABLOPMO - check it out.

Some others of interest are:

National Diabetes Awareness Month
National Epilepsy Month
National Alzheimers Disease Awareness Month
National Hospice Month

We can't forget Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday of November for the United States and Puerto Rico.

Not listed above but still important to us--we have FIVE birthdays in November.  We usually have one big party!!

VINTAGE WEEKLY

I have just discovered a meme where I can feature one of my vintage photos each week.   Was looking through the blogs I follow and saw a family photo from Nonnie's Observations and decided to check out the link.

Jane at VINTAGE WEEKLY MEME  has a wonderful place to show off those vintage photos and the link is open for the entire week.

Recently I discovered this photo of my Dad from 1937 that a cousin of mine posted on Facebook.

Daddy was a country boy and I can only image him on a family trip in their model T and having the funds to visit a photography studio.  Don't you love the stained glass window and drapes.  Daddy would have been 13 in this photo.

What a cutie he was, he looks so adorable in that hat!!  He grew up to be a very handsome man and had a wonderful life with 4 girls, me being the oldest.

Check out the party!!

October pinks

Pinks are turning up in October, our KC Chiefs are sporting PINK on every piece of clothing.

These pics were taken during the game on 10-6-13.

Our new quarterback Smith is one great player. The KC Chiefs are 5-0, first time since 2003.

I love the PINK sole cleats.

Don't you love it that real men can wear PINK!!

At my beauty shop this morning I saw these cute PINK witch hats  hanging from their ceiling fan.

MY M'S

This week for the letter M, I am featuring the word MIST.

Last week one of the football games our granddaughter cheered for was in the evening. With the days getting dark earlier and the temps falling a beautiful MIST was on the field.

It really got dark as the game finished, kind of eery.

Our cheerleader on a clearer day.

Another grandgirl doing MATH homework.

Old vintage gym basket

I call this old and I call it my snack basket!!  I found this gym basket #761 a couple of years ago and  I have tried using it in numerous areas but I enjoy it the most here in our kitchen.

Oh do you remember using these in gym class, I had so much trouble getting the locks to work!!!!!  So glad it's being used for something other than those ugly green jumpsuits!!

Have a great week.

L is for Line

ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER L

This summer I took a picture of three birds on our power LINE. They LINGERED  there for the longest time.

Wonder what they were saying--three old friends--out for a daily fly.
