P is for Paper

I am the keeper of papers in our family.  I have secured marriage license from my great-grandparents, war records, birth certificates and anything else that is of importance.

A few months ago at my Moms I was looking for a newspaper article from my childhood and found it, that is for another post.

I found this newspaper from 1945.  The Tulare High School printed a 4 page layout of the graduating class.

My Mom is the second from the right on the top row.

The front page featuring the four leading students who would speak at the commencement.

Around the same time my Mom was graduating from High School my Dad was attending the U.S. Army Air Corps Technical School in Belleville, Illinois.

This is a post card that he sent his mother.

A passage from the pamphlet reads:  "Here at Scott Field is the world's finest school for the training of radio men. Within a few years 2,400 acres of Looking Glass Land have been transformed into a vast military college where men are instructed in every possible intricacy of radio."

My Dad served as a radio tower operator in WWII in Anchorage Alaska.

My Mom gave me these two pieces of Paper to take care of which is one my passions.

I am the "keeper of the papers" in our family. Not sure who is going to want to do that when I relinquish them some day. I hope maybe my niece's son. He has an interest in genealogy and history. There is usually one.

XO,

Sheila

It is sad how the e-world is slowly and steadily replacing the traditional paper in all walks of life. Like you I am a big fan of the old, trusted newspaper.

Very precious pieces of paper. There is something about these solid objects that can't be found in the digital realm.

I always find it fascinating as to what survives and what doesn't. I have postcards sent from Canada to my Grandmother in England but not as single letter has made it into the 21st century.

I enjoy paper and the history it provides as well. When I am shopping for postcards I really like the ones that are not "as new" but are "postally used" because there is always a tiny story to go with the picture!
Your Newspapers are wonderful, they fall apart so quickly I can see those were cared for.
Great Post for "P"!

Great post. I am the keeper of papers too but I need to organize them better. I have boxes of letters my father wrote to my mother when he was in the air force during world war two.

How precious, thank you for sharing them Ann and thank you also for visiting us at pret-a-vivre. You were probably at Lisse which is where the Keukenhof is and they have a magnificent tulip festival which we missed :)

Not sure who has the most family papers, my sister or me, but we sure have a lot! I think I have the most family photographs.

I dislike all the technology. No one wants to sit down and write a letter or postcard. Everyone wants everywhere quick fast. I would so treasure such wonderful documents. I have my maternal grandparents wedding picture framed and my father-in-law had his phamily genealogy . My hubby has lots of copies of old photos and I have same too. Our history with our phamilies is so important. I really enjoy reading your posts. Thanks always for sharing.

My middle daughter has a newspaper with the headline that our president JFK was assassinated! Still sad thinking about it today. I think he was one of the last great presidents. He put the fitness program in place back when I was a little kid in school and now Obama and his wife act as if they single handed are saving our country from obesity! Ugh!
