ABC WEDNESDAY LETTER U

Kansas City is known for it's UNDERGROUND CAVES.  Today I'd like to share with you what I learned on Wickipdedia.

SubTropolis is a 55,000,000 square foot , 1,100 acre manmade cave in the bluffs above the Missouri  River in Kansas City, MO.  It is claimed to be the worlds largest underground storage facility.

It is dug into Bethany Falls limestone mine and it is at 160 feet beneath the surface.  It containes seven miles of paved roads and several miles of railroad track.

The mine maintains a temp of between 65 and 70 degrees Faharenheit year-round.

SubTropolis houses around 50 businesses and organizations.

To name a few:
Cerner Corp.
Hallmark Cards
US Postal Service
Vanguared Packaging

Also the caves sponsor the Annual "Groundhog Run" which is celebrating it's 31st year in 2013 for Children With Disabilities.

Hope you enjoy my Kansas City U today.

Mysterious world under the ground.Who knows what else there is hidden in mother earth.
Thanks for your comment on both my urban legend and Uriah, which had really happened. A young newly wed couple was in a hotel celebrating their honeymoon, laying on the bed they made a horrible discovery. There was a body hidden in the mattress of their bed.
The Uriah story was also a terrible story.
Of course David was a man after God's heart, but he was a sinner. He got punished for it. I wonder if poor Bathsheba had a say in the matter!

I'm sure I would like to visit there. And if I was in Kansas, there is a blogger friend I'd like to meet, called Kansas Bob.

I have been in several caves, but do not like them. I have a fear they will bury me alive. You did a nice job on giving the history of this one.

Caves were used to store treasures and valuable artworks. Rather like the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Nice to meet a fellow blogger that is so close to home. I'm sure you already know that Missouri is a big cave state.

In fact there is one near me that a couple purchased and turned into an amazing home. It has been featured in several major publications.

I did not know about this one and will have to seek it out next time we stop in KC. We go through there rather often on our way to visit my sister in Omaha.
