Outdoor Wed. Light Pole Bird Nest

Joining Susan @http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/for Outdoor Wednesday.

I was shopping at a local mall last week with my sister and niece and saw this little bluebird come out from a ledge on a lightpole.  I ALWAYS have my camera handy, so after I investigated the ledge I found a cute little bird nest .  After I started blogging I find that I am so much more aware of everything around me, nature and people. I guess it's because I document everything that I deem important or what I think any of my followers would be interested. It's a good thing.

I haven't figured out why the eggs are laying on the cement and not in the nest though.

We always have so many wasps in our yard every year and it makes it hard to relax on the deck without having to worry about them flying everywhere.  I took a chance and ordered these from the internet.
"NATURAL WASP DETERRENT"
Wasps are very territorial creatures and avoid any area where there is an existing nest.  Hanging these imiatation nests REALLY keep wasps away.  I think maybe I saw one wasp in my yard all of last summer.

I hung three in our yard, one on the garden shed and two up by the house.  Just google imitation wasp nest--they sell for around $14.95 for four.

I'm certainly enjoying time outside-hope you are too.

Hi Anne....I did not know that wasp were territorial. We haven't had them in a long time, but I think it's because we have lots of birds who make nests in the bird houses, bushes and trees. It did take awhile to get a nest of sparrows off the front porch...so messy, but the rubber snake did the trick and scared me everytime I went out there, too. Cool trick with the wasp nests!

I hope the thing works to get rid of the wasps. You will have to let us know how your experiment goes.

Well, I learned something new today! I do believe I will be getting a couple of the wasp deterrents! I certainly hope all the eggs hatch. I wonder if the nest tipped a little and the eggs slid out. Mama bird may not be able to push them back in.

It is odd you and I both did a feature involving birds. Two great minds running together I guess. I always enjoy what you share and your visits.

Hi Ann, I have been trying to visit you for three days but our life has been full of errands and running to town etc. since I came home from my trip with my sister. I loved your pink bunny egg cups and your darling grands in their Barbie car. The 1013 book is a treasure. How lucky you found such a wonderful record of life so long ago. Happy summer cooking. smile. I too am surprised the little egg is outside of the nest. Great photos. I too am more aware of things since blogging. I love blogging although I sometimes have trouble with visiting as much as I want. Life is busy in my home and I am happy to be busy. The wasp thing is very interesting. We live in the mountains and wasps are a problem here too. Thanks for the info.

Have a happy wasp free day.
Hugs, Jeanne

Thanks for the info on the imitation wasp nest. I had no idea such a gizmo existed. I call the exterminator a few times during the summer to get rid of them but now I will order one of these gizmos.
