G is for Gene

Today was a somber day for our family, my Uncle GENE was laid to rest in Leavenworth National Cemetery.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

This picture was taken in Monterey, California where he was stationed.

Uncle GENE was a gentle soul.  He was a quiet gentleman who when he spoke it was something he thought was important.

His wife, children and grandchildren are grieving but so happy that he passed away in his sleep and did not go through a prolonged illness.

His grave is going to be in this beautiful green, grassy and grand setting for our countries hero's.

The grandeur of the ceremony was overwhelming!!!

All of the glorious flags waving in the wind and the sound of "Taps" echoing in our ears.

My Aunt being presented the flag.

It was such a touching memorial to my Uncle.

Painted milk jars

Pinterest has so many great ideas for DIY decorating.  I really enjoy trying new crafts and when I saw painted milk jars I wanted to try.

I've had some milk jars that I bought with chocolate milk a few months ago--not vintage ones.  I thought they would be pretty painted.

I think this looks really pretty in my vintage milk carrier. Plan on making more to fill it up and in different colors.

I used regular water based acrylic paint but it won't be able to add water for fresh flowers.  Saw another pin that used oil based paint that would be able to hold water.  My next ones I will use this paint.

Jars of Pinks

I am in the process of creating a sewing/craft room in an extra room that was just a combination of everything.

I have plenty of pretty trims, ribbons, threads and yarn to display in pretty jars.  After filling a few of  the jars I realized a lot was pink.  I plan on covering the shelves with pretty pink and turquoise paper.

A very pretty book container  in PINK too.

I have so many plans for this room.

Fancy

Do you consider yourself fancy?  Do you like to dress fancy?

A simple black dress can be classy but not fancy.  I use to dress a lot fancier when I was working, in the banking industry in the 1980's it was required that we wear a dress or suit.

Years after when I was working in education we were still required to dress business casual.

Nowadays I dress up fancy on the weekends when I attend church, the rest of the time I like to be casual. Times have definitely changed in the fashion department.  Don't get me started on what people wear to Walmart !!!!

Here is a picture of my Mom and Dad on their wedding day. They were married by a judge and wore dressy clothes.  I "fancied" up the picture with some lace and jewels.  Dad's jacket was a brown hounds tooth and Mom's suit was pink with black trim.

It does seem people's standards have diminished in the way they dress. I remember as a child when we all (the whole family) went to the grocery once a week we would wear dresses and high heels. Glad those days are gone!!

Spots of blue

On Sunday I was visiting a friend of mine in the hospital and the Heart Surgery wing was decorated with these very pretty glass decorations.

On my way home I stopped at my favorite fast food spot Sonic for a vanilla coke. There is blue on the side of the building which caught my eye.

You can do it

While relaxing on my deck this morning in my PINK  jammies I caught a glimpse of something PINK in my garden!!!!

Hubs and I always spend at least an hour on the deck in the mornings drinking our coffee and planing the day.

I got my tomatoes in a little late this season and it seems they were never going to turn red.  However this is what I saw this morning.

Come on little guy--YOU CAN DO IT--YOU CAN DO IT.

E is for edit

I've had a little problem coming up with an e post this week because I've been busy for days trying to edit our file cabinet.

I try to be  organized but sometimes I feel I'm always going up-hill.

I have eagerly, in earnest, being eagle-eyed determined to edit the mounds and years of records. Hopefully I will become more efficient so when I need a copy of an item I can find it strait away.

In researchI I  found out that bank statements and  bills only need to be kept for one year. I've been keeping more so I have shredded quite a bit. I have 5 bags of shredding for pickup this week.

I want to go from this:

To this:

I've decided to keep all of our income tax returns--I feel like something could come up later.

Also I'm weeding out household items, donating items, throwing some things out that I will never use. It makes life less cluttered.

How do you all handle all of the paperwork?

Pink glo sticks and zinnias

At a really fun wedding reception this past weekend, we had to have pictures of our glo-sticks.

They played some of the recent music for the young ones, but some for us too.

The pictures were taken with my i-phone so they are little fuzzy in the dark!  The pink lights were so soft and pretty.

My zinnias bloomed this week--a few shades of pink.

Dog days of summer

Here in the Northern Hemisphere  we are experiencing "THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER".  I did some research on Wikipedia and found out some background of the phrase.

I always knew this was the hottest part of the summer but this clears some up for me.

In the Farmers Almanac it says that there are normally 40 days of the least rainfall during this time period fom July 3rd to Aug 11
.

In folklore the heat caused the dogs to go mad, the sea to boil, humans to have fevers and cause hysteria according to Clavis Galendaria in 1813.

My grass is not as green as usual and my flowers need lots of watering.

One other thing about the "dog days of summer" is that school is right around the corner and our annual tradition of buying school supplies has arrived.

DECISIONS, decisions--what colors to buy? What kind of backpack?

Yesterday we spent a few hours in the school supply isles picking out all of those special items.

Blue and White

What will you share this Blue Monday morning?  Miss Sally will have many bloggers posting their blue sightings and memories. Please let her know how much you appreciate her great blog.

In Mexico on vacation, while wearing my blue-and-white stripe swim top I took my turn holding this Iguana.

Enjoying all my pictures from our fabulous vacation. Getting ready for grands to go to school though this week. Will be shopping for those special items that I can get for them.
