S is for SERVICE

ABC Wednesdays letter is S this week.

This is the SEASON for SERVICE.  How do you SERVE others?

Our church foyer yesterday had a display of some of the items we have donated for Thanksgiving for needy families.

We also have a coat drive where we donate good used or new coats, hats, and gloves. We don't ask any questions of the people who come in for help, they just receive a sack full of all the makings for a nice dinner plus a frozen turkey.

SERVICE to others should be an attitude of our hearts and we should do this year round, but it is so nice to do this at this time of year when so many people feel lonely or inadequate when it comes to having a nice dinner for their family.

If you don't have a project going for this SEASON, consider doing something----it will be so rewarding.

We love serving. Our Church has a great emphesis on helping others.
Thanksgiving baskets, definitely and Hubby and I just did 4 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child from Samaritan's Purse.. It's nice to know that kids will have both some necessities and some toys to enjoy.

What a coincidence, Sallie! We have the same in our church. We gave all kind of good things , like food and articles for the house.. We call this a food bank. There are many food banks everywhere in the country. It's good to keep thinking of people in need. It is our duty.
Thanks for sharing.

Great post sis. We just left walmart and bought groceries to take Sunday. They literally line the altar area. It's a beautiful thing.

Truly "Service" is the language of God's people. Our church and all the churches we served in for almost 50 years before retiring, were in the business of helping people. This time of year really give everyone to become "Servants Hearts".

I agree, serving others all year long is important, but helping others during the holidays is more memorable somehow.

Oh Ann, this post touched my heart! This morning the local news had a segment about the Samaritan House, where families are helped along back into the work force and such. we just forget how truly blessed we are with homes and phamilies and food. There was a little girl on the show named Cecilia who lives at the shelter. Touched me because my mom was Cecilia and this little nine year old girl had the biggest smile I had ever seen! I was brought to tears. She was so happy to be having a nice dinner and yet she and her phamily have nothing really but lots of love, hope and smiles! A couple local hotels do all these amazing floral arrangements for the dinner there. I was so touched and agree we need to act like this 365 days a year! Thank you.
