Winky Dink and You

Something fun to remember today about my childhood.  In the 1950's there was a children's show called "Winky Dink and You".  I can remember watching it on Saturday mornings and playing along with Winky Dink.

The host was Jack Barry and he along with Winky would create stories for us to solve.  Bill Gates applauds this show as the first interactive TV show.

You had to actually order a special packet with a vinyl plastic sheet included  that would stick to the TV screen to play along.  You would trace on the screen to attach whatever you needed to help solve the story.  I can't remember is special markers came with it.

Many kids wrote directly on the TV screen to their parents horror!! (my husband says he was one of them).

From Wiki:
Most of the TV sets were 17" and of course black and white.

The show lasted until the end of the 1950's many were afraid of what affects the TV tubes would have with X-rays on the viewers.

So many fun shows back then, I long to see more wholesome subjects for today's youth but I'm afraid that video games are here to stay---we just have to be vigilant watching what they are playing.

I don't remember Winky Dink, but I do recall Berry, who hosted a slew of game shows.

Was it a nationwide show? I don't recall it. What your title brought up in my mind was the tiddilywinks game.
