Yonder

For Y this round my word is yonder. You don't hear this word much but it is used in a few of my favorite songs.

Yonder is defined as over there--far away or at a distance.

When I was growing up in church we would sing the old hymn "When the role is called up yonder", still remember the way it may me feel. It was written in 1893 by James M. Black a Methodist Sunday school teacher.

Also my hubby being an Air Force Veteran their song is "Air Force Song" (Wild Blue Yonder) written in 1938. Up we go into the wild blue yonder------- still gives him chills.

To all my blogging friends in yonder parts of the world, hope you are enjoying the letter Y.

Simply gorgeous photo and oh my, I haven't sung that hymn in ages. It was a great, rousing one to sing parts.

You are right: yonder is often used in hymns and other songs." Who 's that yonder dressed in blue? Oh rocke my soul in the bosom of Abraham".....

Yonder is a good word. The song I think of is Carole King's "Way Over Yonder."
