A is for autobiography and author

To begin this round of ABC Wednesday I'm going to start with a tribute to my husbands nephew who left this world in September of  2015 at the age of 62.

Daryl W. Sprague was a victim of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which was diagnosed with in 1995 at the age of 42.

In 2007 he wrote his biography about this disease and the trials he encountered along the way. It is a very inspiring story for anyone going through similar circumstances.

We spent the past 10 years at least -every Friday night going out to dinner with him and his wife and being a support team for them.  There were times when he was going to drug trials or treatment when we could not see him. He endured a stem cell transplant and was getting ready for another when his body just said "I cannot do this again".

My husband took him to his doctor appointments and his treatments many times over the years. He will miss having that one-on-one time with him.

We miss him so much but his life changed ours and we tried our best to lift him up every way we could.

His book is published by the Tate Publishing Company.  "Once was not Enough", a story of hope in the heartland.

The daffodil on the cover is a symbol of hope for those who suffer from non-Hodgskins Lymphoma.

He sounds like a great guy who will be missed. Are you on Facebook? There is a group there called I love memoirs that suggests memoirs to members to read.

A lovely tribute. One of our favourite destinations on the motorbike is the Lake District, the setting for Wordsworth's famous daffodil poem.

Ann this is poignantly written. A beautiful tribute. In the early 1970's I lost a dear heart Lou Lynch to this disease. SHe had no fight in her and only wanted to join her husband John who she had lost several years earlier, way too young also. Lou was my supervisor at the first job I had and she was a crack up and we had tons of fun together! My heart breaks when I hear those words. Lots of love and prayers for your family. You have had difficult days with these precious losses. Colorado hugs to you and yours from me xo

It's amazing what they are achieving with stem cells these day I am sorry that it did not work for your nephew. I'm sure his book will be a great read for those families in the same position, let's hope that search for a cure is coming closer. A lovely tribute Ann.

Oh my, Ann, you have had some very sad losses recently. How wonderful, though, that you and your husband stayed so involved in your nephew's life. As much as you will miss him, you were at least able to share quality time with him, and will have, I know, beautiful memories of your time together.

Bill and I have followed the stories, recently, of three children lost to cancer and two others who are survivors. It really is such a horrific disease. More and more money goes to research and though there are successes for sure, it does seem as if we should surely have found a cure by now. I continue to worry about the plastic in the ocean and the additives in our food. My tiny contribution to make a difference is to do what I can to cut down on plastic containers, try not to put toxins in our air and water and buy as much organic food as I can. Still, so many continue to suffer. I haven't read your nephew's book but it looks very interesting for sure and will hopefully help others going through the cancer journey.
