Vintage Postage Scale

Today I am linking with Suzanne @http://coloradolady.blogspot.com  for VINTAGE THINGIE THURSDAY.

A few weeks ago I purchased this vintage postage scale at a local shop.  It has been tole painted which I wish it hadn't been but I still enjoy the chart on the scale.

It is a  postal machine manufactured by the Triner Manufacturing Company in Chicago, Ill..  Local first class mail was 2 cents per  ounce and   air mail 5 cents.  There is no date on the machine.

After doing some research on Wickipedia for the history of postal rates, the machine could be as old as 1919.  The rates on the charts match the dates on the machine.

It is a fun item to have around and makes for some interesting conversation.

That is really cute!

I also like the grass photo you're using as a background right now. Very nice.

I think the tole painting on the scale is pretty. It might be more valuable without it but some person did a nice job of making it pretty. Thank you for the nice comment about our living room. It was fun decorating it.------ Shannon

Oh neat. I wonder if the paint work is original to the peice? Back in the turn of the century some of these items were done for ladies hat and clothing stores..I wonder. Either way it sure is pretty for something so mudane.

I love the color--what a sweet little scale! These things are highly addictive, I hear. Better watch out! :)
Happy VTT!

Didn't get to see this when I was at your place. I agree it would be better original even thoug the work was done well. Maybe research it and take it back to its old glory.
