Vintage Thingie Thursday - My Hummels

Today I'm sharing my collection of Hummels that I purchased when we went to Germany in 1982.  We were able to acquire them at a fraction of what the cost was here at that time.  I just read on a Hummel site that the Goebel company has discontinuing making them as of 2008.

I realize mine are not exactly vintage but the creator and artist are.  Sister Maria Innocenta Hummel began sketching pictures of small children in the 1930's in Germany.  Porceline maker Franz Gobel caught a vision to re-create her sketches into porceline and started making the figurines before WWII.

Here is one of Sister Hummels first sketches.

Here are the ones that I was able to collect:

                                                                   Sensitive hunter:

Stitch in Time

Doll Mother

Skier

Trumpet Boy

We took a whole day and shopped for Hummels and when we got home my  nephew JR, he was three at the time said "Aunt Ann here I have a Hummel for you" and hand me this figurine. He had got it at a little shop in Hieldeberg.  Oh I was so honored to take this from him and he sets along side my Hummels in my china cabinet.

I'm linking with Suzanne @http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/ for Vintage Thingie Thursday.

Have fun collecting all of those fabulous one of a kind treasures.

Ann, you beat to the draw. I have several Hummels as well. One day I am featuring a few of them. A few are very old. In fact, I think I have these same ones.

What a lovely collection you have! I visited Germany in 1980 at Christmas; it was such a beautiful time of year there!

I really love your Hummel collection. I see them all the time at auctions here in Canada and they always sell for a lot of money. Buying them right from Germany was the way to go!

Ann, Cute collection. We used to live in Germany and I got a chance to see some amazing Hummell collections. Your little boy with trumpet is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for stirring up happy memories.

Nice collection. I have mine in a box waiting for their shelf to be varnished and put back up on the wall. A friend called them my "Little People" which I thought was a good name, since she wasn't aware of the Hummel story.

Oh Ann, You have such sweet Hummel figurines. I love them all but Trumpet Boy is adorable. How lucky you were able to purchase them in Germany. I'm sorry to hear they are not offered with the Goebel company any longer. I did not know about this. I have two pieces and love them. Thanks for sharing your collection.

Sweet collection!

I have a carousel horse like the last Hummel you have pictured. With my Franklin Mint and crystal horses sat a little dollar store carousel horse. When a 3 year-old begged her mom to buy it for me because I collect them, well, it became the best Christmas present that year and my favorite in my collection.

I so enjoyed seeing your Hummels. I have a collection that I bought whenever I use to travel to Europe. I have the smaller ones like the trumpet boy. Each one means something special.

I have long loved Hummels! My MIL left her Hummel collection to my daughter -- but they reside in my house! I'm so glad that I can enjoy them every day! I have that skiier too!

My mother and I were both nuts for Hummels in the 80's and could not believe the prices. My mom collected a few and gave me a few for special occasions. Sadly a couple of my figurines suffered damage in our 1994 earthquake. :( Now all of my knick knacks are "museum waxed" down and hopefully they won't budge when the next one comes. YIKES!

Happy Hummels and Happy VTT!

Hi Ann, Your Hummels are darling. I have always loved those figurines but I never collected them. My Aunt Jean had a huge collection of them because she worked for years in a gift shop. She would go to the big gift shows in Chicago and buy them wholesale. She couldn't resist the charm of the darling Hummel children.

Have a happy day.
Hugs, Jeanne

I love your Hummel figures! I don't own a single Hummel but think they are just adorable. I was laughing at the "Hummel" that your nephew bought you. It reminded me of when my son was about 5, he went with his Dad into Big Lots and bought me a small green vase. He proudly exclaimed that he had found me some "Impression" glass. I collect green "depression" glass!

Hi Ann! Your Hummels are beautiful. I always wanted to collect them. They are so precious and innocent.
we had such a nice trip to Kansas. Nick loved the school! I am praying he will be able to go there. It was a quiet and peaceful place to visit. I am happy that I know you here! Hugs Anne
