Kansas and Missouri rivalarys roots began around 1858 during the Kansas territorial period. Kansas was a FREE state and MO a pro-slave state. Jayhawkers was a term used to describe a group of men in Kansas who would do anything against the pro-slavery state of MO.
Kansas embrased the Jayhawkers term in the 1890's KU football game. The KU mythical bird mascot was invented in 1912.
Ofcourse there is nothing today that resembles anything like slavery but these two states have always been at odds with each other. We are going to miss these highly anticipated games to enjoy every season.
We had a fantastic game and KU WON by 1 point. I don't think thousands of us fans could breath for 10 minutes. We went into overtime. Missouri beat us last month in Columbia so this game in Lawrence Saturday was a highlight that will be remember for a long time to come.

Those kind of games are nailbiters! Exciting and fun but emotionally draining unless you win! Thanks for stopping by!

I wonder what they were thinking too Ann. I love the photo.
KU is my brother-in-laws favorite team. They live in Gladstone, MO. Small world. Interesting to read the history of the rivalry.
