Pony

P IS FOR PONY

While traveling in Amish country a few weeks ago, we drove by a one-room school house and pony's tied up outside.  It was such a  beautiful sight.

My Dad and MIL used to tell us of their times in elementary school and how they rode their horses to school in the 1920's and 30's.

Times have not changed in the Amish community and I couldn't resist taking a photo of these darling pony's just waiting for school to end and their owners to ride them home. Looks like some of the little ones rode along in the pull carts.

The brown and white pony was so cute.

Inside were grades 1-8 studying their Geography, Arithmetic and English, just like my MIL and father did 70 years ago.

Another thing I noticed was the fencing--not what you normally see.

Would you like living a simpler lifestyle?  I've considered that time and again and I just appreciate all my modern conveniences too much.

However, the older I get I do seem to be getting rid of some of my clutter and making the living spaces simpler to clean. Makes me appreciate more the things I really love.

I have always been fascinated by these people. I have a lot of respect for them. Would dearly love going to the area where they live. They are the best cooks.I enjoyed your little tour.

I'm with you Ann.
I want a simpler life style but I really love my conveniences.
The Amish way is so interesting.

Nice photos of ponies, and your post reminds me that yes, I would like to declutter and simplify. The Amish are good examples in many ways.

I should like to live in a simpler lifestyl, but I appreciate the modern household gadgets now I am getting older.

I couldn't live without my car, a mobile phone, a dishwasher, a laundry machine, a dryer a computer and all other nice modern things ! I don't want to live in the past and have a hard life ! That doesn't mean that I don't like natural things and nature.

Wow pony rides to school and back home! And in 2013! I like watching films and documentaries about the Amish people on youtube. They fascinate me.

The simple life is definitely not easy - but it is definitely slower. All the new stuff seems to be made so that we can do more with the time it saves us until we are on a merry-go-round. Riding in a pony cart would be great to go anywhere never mind school. Just think how much more we would see around us.

I love living our simpler life in our log cabin in the mountains. We aren't completely self sufficient, we do have electricity and running water, but we grow a big garden and I preserve lots of what we grow, unless we've eaten it first! Great photos.

Great pictures sis. I can just see those little ones coming out to leave in their black pants and blue shirts and their straw hats. Yes, I also wish for a simpler life sometimes, but then, I couldn't be flying or coming to visit you! Love you.
