Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah-Letter Z

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah-Letter Z

This song is the cheerful way I want to begin 2013.  As a little girl I would sing this a lot, it still makes me feel really happy.

The Disney Movie this song is included in (Song of the South  1946) does bring controversy about slavery and Disney  has shelved bringing it out for us to purchase.  Although I NEVER knew any of this as a child, I just thought the music was so happy with the little blue birds!!

Zip A Dee Doo Dah won the academy award for best song in 1947.

On Wickipedia it names about 30 artists who have sang this song and the song has been used in numerous other pictures and Disney specials.

Disney had just started adding animation with live characters and received rave reviews for this.
The song also inspired Splash Mountain at the Disney theme park.

Hope this puts a cheerful tune in your step today.

I love Song of the South and especially this song.
I know it's contraversial but it is sad that the whole production can't be enjoyed instead of being politically correct. there is certainly a lot worse out there now.

It's such a fun song and I find myself humming it sometimes when I'm in a particularly good mood.

We have this moive...but it's band in some places, as they don't want to depict slaves as happy.

It's really love the movie, and the song.

I just remember loving the happy mood of this song and the wonderful roll of those "zip-a-dee-doo-dah" syllables under my tongue. It just feels good to say them.. even now. I never saw (or even heard of) the movie and knew nothing of the controversy. Thanks for bringing back a fun memory.

This is a wonderful use of the letter Z. I like the song, too. It's been a while since I've heard it, though. God bless.

Good morning Kansas lady! Did you know this song is considered politically incorrect today? I say bah and humbug to the pc in this world! I loved this song too. It was so cheery for a kid to skip along and sing. We never thought about hurting anyone's feelings and today we shoot up schools and kill classmates and other innocent people and our govt. lays down more of their ridiculous laws on us.

I will have this song in my head all day! Hee Hee!

Hugs Anne
