God Bless America

Happy Blue Monday to all my blogging buddies.  My sister Lori gave me this hanging a few weeks ago.  I love the eagle who represents our wonderful USA.

It is trimmed in a sparkly blue trim and red ribbon.

I think this would be pretty hanging on our front door for Labor Day.

ABC WEDNESDAY - LETTER B

                                                  BRIGHT,   BRIGHTNESS    BRILLIANCE

These three words congure up all kinds of thoughts.

According to dictionary, BRIGHT is described as emitting or reflecting light readily or in large amounts., shining.

BRIGHTNESS  is the effect or sensation by which an observer can distinguish difference in illuminations.

BRILLIANCE is extreme brightness.

I took this picture on vacation in Colorado a few weeks ago  and I think it meets all of the above.

Sometimes a perfect picture just happens.

Library Chairs

BLUE MONDAY

I spotted these adorable childrens chairs at our local library last week. These are in the section for young readers.

I usually take our grandgirls to the library every two weeks during the summer.

They make for a very cheerful enviornment for learning about new things.

PINK SATURDAY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEVERLY

I am a paper keeper, if you have seen my posts you know I have kept cards and letters for the last 60 years.  I kept all of my childrens creations from childhood and created scrapbooks for them when they became adults.

I saved this Birthday Party invite from 1964, going through some of these I thought it was perfect for Miss Beverly's Decade Birthday.

The party goers are both in pink!! They are drinking sodas and playing happy birthday on the record player.

Hope you have a fabulous birthday Beverly and I'm also featuring a Precious Moment I recieved from a good friend on my birthday a few years ago.

This one is named HUG ONE ANOTHER.

Hugs to you Beverly, wishing you the best!!

ABC Wednesday - Letter A

ARCHITECTUAL SALVAGE

Today we begin again with a new round for ABC Wednesday.  I'm going to share one of my very favorite A words.

Architectual Salvage is a passion of mine and love to collect pieces of interest for our home. Many converstions begin with a peek at one of my items I've collected.

There are many Architectual Salvage stores and shops across the county and If I spy one on a trip, I will certainly stop.

Here's a few of small pieces I have.

Gym basket with glass door knobs, horseshoes and type sets for  vintage printers cabinet.

Coupling for vintage firehose.

Husband is a retired Paramedic/Firefighter.

This is my favorite items.

My BIL salvaged this for me years ago.  It is a vintage printers cabinet. Right now it is filled with vintage linens.

So happy to participate in the new year for ABC Wednesday @http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com

Thank you Roger for taking on this new ADVENTURE.

Z is for Zany

We are at the end of the alphablet for ABC Wednesday and I have decided on the word Zany.

Our city of Kansas City is one ZANY place to be right now.  The whole area (both sides of the state line) is full of ZEAL for the 83rd Allstar Baseball Game.  Kansas City has been preparing for three years for this event.

All week there has been events going on to honor the game. We've had 5K runs, Fanfest where you could go all day and tour special events held by different groups and swing your own bat, get get your favorite players autograph. The Home Run Derby was a great event with Prince Felder winning again this year.

These 1,000 lb statues have been placed in 6 areas of our city.  You can purchase mineature statues for a momento.

The fans are very ZEALOUS for the game.  Our mascot "Slugger".

Fans trying to catch the ball at the Home Run Derby.

There are community watch parties all over the city--for those who can't afford the tickets.

Tonight at the game on each seat is a white, red or blue T-shirt attached for the ticket-holder to wear. When photographed the stands are suppose to look like the American Flag

The ZINGER---the winner of this game tonight gets home field avantage in the World Series this fall.

I'll be watching on TV, but wish I could be there.

Gourd Birdhouse

Last fall I purchased a gourd for the purpose of making a birdhouse. I dried it all winter in a dry, cool spot, I chose my garage.  I finally got around to drilling a hole for the opening and and painting it.  Be sure it is totally dry--shake it to hear the seeds jingling.

I sprayed the gourd  with a primer first and then used a latex outdoor enamel spray paint to cover.

I hung it on our Weeping Spruce tree and I like the blue and green combination.

Yankee Doodle Dandy," 1942...Song From the movie "You're a Grand Old Flag

ABC WEDNESDAY - Letter Y

For letter "Y", I really wanted to do something patriotic and I thought of this great movie from 1942.

"Yankee Doodle Dandee" and "You're a Grand Old Flag = BOTH Y WORDS.

From Wickepedia:

Yankee Doodle Dandy is a 1942 American biographical musical film about George M. Cohan, known as "The Man Who Owns Broadway".[1] It stars James Cagney, Joan Leslie, Walter Huston, and Richard Whorf, and features Irene Manning, George Tobias, Rosemary DeCamp and Jeanne Cagney.

The original movie poster:

Here's hoping you a wonderful Independence Day.

Ready-Set-Go

We just returned from vacation in Colorado and going through my pictures, this one really stands out. We were at a rodeo for my DIL's  charity "Buena Vista Pregnancy Center". My three grandchildren are participating in a race with their wooden horses.  All three of them are together on the right - all running with their same leg out front.  It was a fluke that I shot it so well!!!!

Notice all the BLUE tennis shoes and denim shorts!

They all had entry numbers pinned for all the events.

It was a very fun event.  This is my favorite pic of the day and this one I am going to enlarge.
