VINTAGE THINGIE THURSDAY

When I was very little around 3 or 4, my Mom and Dad and me lived with my paternal Grandparents on the old family homestead.

I've been told that I was Grandma's Buddy. Grandma and I would do chores, walk down to the pond and feed the fish and check out the property.

I do have a picture of her and me together, although I really can't remember her, this picture was taken in 1949 or 1950.

The only way they washed clothes was by hand and Grandma used a "clothes stomper" to get out stains.

One day I went missing, no one could find me in any of the farm buildings, so they started searching the property.

My favorite thing to carry around was the clothes stomper. While they were looking for me, they heard a noice down by the pond and found me circling the pond dragging the stomper.

When I was an adult my Dad purchased this stomper for me at an estate sale. Everytime I see it I remember my Dad and the old farm.

Great story, and a great picture of you and your Grandma! I always loved wash day when we were visiting my grandparents. They had the old wringer washer, and I had so much fun feeding the clothes into the wringer!
Happy VTT!

That's a cool picture. I lived in the city so I never knew about clothes stompers or that people were still washing by hand at such a late date.

What a wonderful post you have for today's VTT. I really enjoyed the old photo and the story behind it. Very interesting. I have seen these items you call a stomper, but did not know they were called that. Don't forget to check out Pink Saturday as I am going to feature you on it.
