Today I'm sharing a Loving Cup that I purchased a few weeks ago on a bidding site on the internet. It was badly tarnished and I secured it for $20.00
Loving Cup is a large ornamental wine vessel usually made of silver and having two handles. Sometimes they are a large vessel given as an award for a special event.
The original meaning comes from a ceremonial drinking vessel from 1812.
At weddings people would share it and it symbolized friendship and unity.
Here is the picture of the cup when I first recieved it in the mail.
After a considerable amount of elbow grease and a container of tarnish remover, it now looks really nice.
I have seen them used several ways in decorating, using them in your studio with art brushes, in the kitchen for wooden spoons or several grouped in a beautiful display.
I added some silk hydrangeas for now but I'm sure I will end up moving it many spots in my house.
The inscription says "FAREWELL SALLY LYNDE McCORMICK, WIVES
3-68 to 11-69"
I'm not sure if it is 1968 or 1868!!
Have no earthy idea what that could be, any ideas?
