Vintage Thingie Thursday - Ann Margaret and The Ted Mac Original Ameature Hour

Do you enjoy shows like American Idol where you vote on your favorite?? My favorite show is American Idol and I have picked some favorites. Stars have been made, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Katherine McFee to name a few. Have you seen SMASH--Katherine is fantasic.

It reminded me of the "Ameature Hour with Ted Mac". Are you of the age to have seen these in person like me. I remember seeing this episode when Ann Margaret sang on the show.  According to Wickipedia The Ted Mac Original Amateur Show ran until Sept. 1970 and was being aired on ABC at the time.

Have you picked a favorite on the show yet?

Celebrating our Jayhawks

We had a classic border showdown this Saturday.  The KU Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers have been rivals  for the past 100 years.  Kansas  and Missouri  have fought back and forth and this next year Missouri is leaving our league and joining the SEC.

Kansas and Missouri rivalarys roots began around 1858 during the Kansas territorial period.  Kansas was a FREE state and MO a pro-slave state.  Jayhawkers was a term used to describe a group of men in Kansas who would do anything against the pro-slavery state of MO.

Kansas embrased the Jayhawkers term in the 1890's KU football game.  The KU mythical bird mascot was invented in 1912.

Ofcourse there is nothing today that resembles anything like slavery but these two states have always been at odds with each other.  We are going to miss these highly anticipated games to enjoy every season.

We had a fantastic game and KU WON by 1 point. I don't think thousands of us fans could breath for 10 minutes. We went into overtime.  Missouri beat us last month in Columbia so this game in Lawrence Saturday was a highlight that will be remember for a long time to come.

Blue Monday

On a recent Red Hat outing we had lunch at an Itilain resturant.  Buca De Peppo on the Country Club Plaza. I adored all the wall and ceiling decor.  The room we reserved was shaped in an oval.

The ceiling was really cool!!

Some local Kansas City Missouri history during the 1920's
Such a fun time--Hope you enjoyed my Itilian Blue.

Vintage Thingie Thursday - Vintage Strainer

I have had this vintage strainer for years and have always wanted to display it somehow. I don't have enough room in my kitchen to really hang much.

I spotted this idea eons ago and cut it out and put in a large scrapbook--before there was anything heard of like blogs or Pinterest.

I took a grocery store bag and shedded some of it for the nest since I didn't have anything else store bought.  I filled the strainer and added some little blue eggs I had in my stock.

I have  this sitting  under my spring tree. I'm in the process of making felt eggs to hang for the inception of springtime.

Are you getting Spring Fever yet? The craft stores look so bright--pinks, yellows, soft blues, pale green, it's absolutely intoxicating!!!!

Pink Saturday - Valentines Day Special

What a special day to celebrate - Valentines Day- the day we can express our pink and red decor and traditions.

I have created a spring tree this year and have been decorating it with my handmade wooden birds that I make and thought it would be pretty with some Hallmark Red beaded hearts I found at a thrift store a few weeks ago. The little boxes of 6 were only .75, why oh why didn't I buy more-they had more.  They are really made for gift wrapping-maybe to celebrate heart health month.

Last year I bought a deck of cards.  Heart (the cards you play with your Heart). They have real questions. I thought this would be a really fun game to play on Valentines Day.

I have been surfing Pinterest and there are so many gorgeous Valentines crafts this year--everything you can think of and what talent.

Last Saturday I visited a blog I hadn't been to before Dix @http://gypsyczech.blogspot.com  Dix is a mixed media collage creator and last Pink Saturday posted some gorgeous pink mercury glass. If you visit her blog you will want to return.

Hope you have had time to create something beautiful this year for Valentines day. Linking with  Beverly

Rednesday blessings

"How excellent is Thy Lovingkindness Oh God", Psalms 36:7.

I was standing in my kitchen this morning and took a long look at the February page on my large calendar.  This calendar is titled "Abundant Blessings" and is printed here in Kansas City.  The artist is Shelly Reeves Smith and has been a good friend of my sisters family for years.

I enjoy so many of the things that is in this picture.  I feel truly blessed to be able to enjoy them all.
Family and friends, flowers,  sewing notions, thread and buttons (of all kinds), scissors, spools of ribbons. Beautiful red fabric background and Valentines ofcourse.

Pink Saturday - New wooden puzzles

The month of Love is in full swing. I see beautiful pink candies in all the stores and gorgeous valentines for sale.

I've been using the scroll saw quite a bit lately and I gave  jigsaw  puzzles a try.  My granddaughters love to paint so it's a family affair. My kitchen counter looks like an art class and thats OK with me.

Here are the two puzzzles that they have finished painting.

You think they like polka dots???????

Each day this month I see this calendar that my DIL made for me. Febuary is full of Love. Hubby and me and Son and Grandson.

I'm linking with Beverly for Pink Saturday @http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog .

Have a SWEET AND LOVE-LY week.
