Easter on Pink Saturday



EASTER

 

Today I'd like to share a picture of my family (minus my baby sister who was born in 1961)  on Easter Sunday in 1955.

 

I'm like so many other bloggers who love to decorate for Easter and make baskets for my grandchildren.  Either make  or buy something pretty to wear to Easter services that's a spring color. 

 

 

BUT most of all celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and King.  I read something very sad this week that only 39% of people are even considering going to church on Easter Sunday. And even out of professing Christians the number is fading.

 

Let's hold fast to what EASTER means!!!!

My Mom I'm sure made these adorable dresses-I'm the tallest of the girls. I feel rich indeed that I have held onto my beliefs and attend church NOT only on  EASTER but every other Sunday as well.

Letter K - Kerfuffle

I just love saying this word KERFUFFLE.  Like most Americans it's not a word you hear everyday.

Kerfuffle is defined in Merriam Dictionary as a disturbance or a fuss.  It is chiefly a Brittish word for a state of confusion or disorder.

However it has become a favorite of mine because  of my favorite TV series Dr. Martin.  This word was used in one of the shows a few weeks ago and I enjoyed hearing it.

 

 

 

 

If you have not seen the series, it is about a surgeon who develops a fear of blood and gives up his hospital position.  He  moves to a small community to become a general practitioner.

 

Doc Martin is very crass, cannot show any emotion and upsets everyone in his small village.

 

Believe me Doctor Martin causes a kerfuffle everywhere he goes!!!

Blue for my kitchen

In my big haul last month at an estate sale I purchased some blue and white speckled items for my kitchen.  I am really looking for the old spacklewear but this will do until I find more pieces.
They go nicely with my other pieces.

 

 

 

 

I think I paid $2.00 for each piece!!! SCORE

My kitchen cabinets have recently been painted white so the blue looks so pretty up there.

Spring bouquets

Last Saturday I hosted our Red Hat Group Spring Event.  Each hostess usually offers a gift or two for the ladies and I went out searching Hobby Lobby and found some lovely spring flowers wrapped in paper and tied with a bow. I felt they were a little pricey and decided to make my own.

I always have silk flowers on hand and a large brown roll of paper for crafting.  I used some of my brown string for the bow. 

 

We had such a fun day, started with lunch at a local restaurant and then saw "Life Could Be a Dream" at the American Heartland Theatre here in Kansas City.

 

Lots of music from the 1950's and 60's.  Remember the songs "Duke of Earl", "Rama Lama Ding Dong",  just a  couple of the ones we were enjoying.

J for Joshua Tree

ABC WEDNESDAY

J IS FOR JOSHUA TREE

 

 

 

One of my favorite vacations as a child was traveling to California to visit my maternal Grandfather and his family.

 

My Dad's favorite spot was the Mojave Deset in California.  Every time we passed through we all took turns standing in front of one of the JOSHUA TREES.

The tree is actually a Yucca brevifolia and its genus is the Yucca plant.

The name Joshua Tree started from a group of Mormon settlers who were traveling out west to settle and thought is looked like the biblical Joshua reaching his hands up to pray.

Other inhabitants of the area used parts of the tree for fencing because it was so strong.

Easter tradition

EASTER EGG TREES

Ever since our granddaughters were born, each year we have given them an Easter Egg for their Easter trees.

Some years I have made their eggs and other times just try to find a unique one for that year.

They have their trees on display at their house and I took pictures of them this week.

They will receieve an egg each year until they are 13 and on their 13th year they get a crystal one.  Were on year number  9 and 11.
