When I was a senior in High School, Rosedale High School in Kansas City, KS class of 1965 we had an assembly for just the "girls". Thats when boys had NO desire to sew anything!!! I knew there was a reason I kept all this stuff. Simplicity Pattern Company put on a fashion show with clothes made from each of the patterns. This was the pamphlet they passed out.
I had this one (black and white polka dots)
My prom dress was like this one on the right.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful keepsake you have here. I love the patterns and your prom dress must have been beautiful. Those were beautiful days when girls really dressed like girls. Times sure have changed. Sometimes I wonder what happened to feminine. The poncho coat and pill box hat make me think of Jackie O. How beautiful she looked in these styles, they were so made for her.

What a fun post Ann. I loved sewing when I was in school. From there I sewed so many of the clothes I wore. I think your prom dress was gorgeous. My third child was born in 1965. Wow, time just rushes by and then you realize you are not young anymore. Except in your heart. Smile! I loved seeing the patterns. good job on this post.

I really enjoyed seeing the old patterns again. You were smart in keeping them. My mother made all our clothes when we were growing up. She made them from printed flour sacks, no store bought material. I never liked to sew. Had no patience for it. Great post for VTT.

My prom dress for my Junior year (1970) looked just like yours. Mine was orange dotted swiss with a white ribbon at the empire waist!

ReplyDeleteThese are really great! I wish they still taught "home ec" the way they used to in schools. It is so watered down now (at least around here) that I left high school not even learning to thread a bobbin! (Thank heavens my mom taught me!)
