Blue Monday New Books

Join Sally@http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/ for more BLUE MONDAY POSTS.

I picked up some books Friday on  another garage sale trip.  I love vintage books and especially gardening ones.  This little book is so neat, great illustrations.

I was imediately drawn to it, the beautiful flowers and artful lettering. The words are done in blue with purple flowers for the cover.

The inside pages looks almost like they have been hand written.

On the front inside cover there is a special message To Mother, dated August 8, 1913.

Each individual flower is listed and then an adjective that is suppose to describe that flower.

example:  Lemon Blossoms-Fidelity in Love
Purple Lilac - First emotions of love

I really love this little book, I will keep it out to read it often.

I also picked up this cookbook by Susan Branch.  It is a summer cookbook with fabulous illustrations and wonderful activities to do in summer.  Beautiful colored pages.

I love the page on the left tells how to have a wonderful tea party and the reciepe on the right for fish tacos I am going to make.

Have a wonderful Monday

Pink Saturday-glass bunnies

and see all of Beverly's pink ladies and their posts.

I've been garage saleing (sp) again and found some little glass pink bunnies.  I think their egg cups. So cute.
I also believe their Depression Glass.

My peonies are opening up, I just couldn't resist posting them now.  see how the pink contrasts with the red roses.

You just need to indulge me for a minute, I was going through older pictures the other day and found this one of my granddaughters in their pink Barbie Jeep.  They have outgrown this now, but it is to precious.

Hoping everyone has a lovely day.

Family Friday-Civil War

I'm sharing an ancestor today for Family Friday with Lori @ The Peterson Family, please join us and celebrate family.

My husbands Great-grandfather on his Mothers side--NORTHRUP MORTIMER-.
Northrup was born in 1840 in Missouri, he married Lucinda and settled in Mo.  He became a seargent in the Calvary and lost the sight in one eye from gun powder.  He and Lucinda farmed after the Civil War  for the rest of their married life.

He was really bothered by loud noises after the war and one evening he became annoyed by the loud noice of a locust.  Being a crack shot, got his rifle and shot it out of the tree
Picture of Northrup with his brother Bill-Northrup on the right.

Northrup and Lucinda had four children, Jerome, Billy, Elisha and Bob.

Northrup died in 1940 at 84 years old.  He is buried in Formosa, Kansas.

My husands Mother had quite a few pictures from the family and gave them to me several years ago, I have his civil war buttons but could not find them today to add to the post.  It's so wonderful to learn about who came before us.
Hope you have a very pleasant day.

Brown Transferware

Our treasures mean a lot to us and we really enjoy sharing them. Join Suzanne @http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/ for todays post.

Last week I discovered an estate sale.  I almost missed it, the signs were not very well posted.  The sale was put on by the owner and not an estate group.  She had 60 years of collectibles, a basement full and then around 5 rooms on the main floor.  As I walked through one of the sitting rooms I noticed a stack of dishes, as I walked closer my heart started racing, could it be---a large set of Brown Transferware.  How beautiful the pieces were, there was not a price listed.  I found the owner and she said $39.00. FOR THE WHOLE SET.  It is a set for 6 including the platter, cream and sugar and gravy boat.  The only piece missing is one plate.   I've seen this pattern and love it however the price was always too steep for me.

The Platter

I absolutely love the dark red, greens and yellows that complement this beautiful brown color.
I have ofcourse looked up the pattern on the internet and discovered my purchase was quite good.  I will be on the lookout for other pieces to match.    I've caught the Brown Transferware Bug!!!!!!

I purchased other items at this sale too, I will share them later on.  Have a wonderful Vintage Thingie Thursday.

Outdoor Wednesday

Outdoor Wednesday brings on the blossoms!!! Susan @http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/
has gathered them all today.
My poppies are blooming one of my favorites. The orange pops in this garden.

I purchased this at a garage sale on Friday.  I plan on attaching hanging plants to each ring.  My hubby says I need a stronger stand-which I will find soon.

One of my favorite bird houses:

I'm going to try to do a little gardening today--between the rain drops.
Have a wonderful Outdoor Wednesday.

Mothers Day Bottle Swap

What fun we had with Miz Molleye @ Down Home with Miz Mollye participating in the Mothers Day Bottle Swap.

My partner was Peggy at Queenmothermamaw.  This is how her bottle arrived.

All kinds of sparkle showing through.  I was so excited.

My note from Peggy says that her Mom's favorite cologne and scent was lavender. That she also loved Lee Nails.

She sent me a gift pack of a spa treatment for my nails with wonderful lavendar scents.
Yummy hand soap.
Lavender Hand Lotion
Snuggily socks.
And a manicure set to start all of the magic.

Thank you Peggy for sharing your Mom with me, I'm sure she was a very special person.
