Family Fridays - Cousins

Joining Lori @ The Peterson Family for Family Fridays today.

As I've been going through pictures the past few days, I ran across this black and white picture from about 1956.
It's amazing how we didn't need DVD Players, CD Players, Television, WII's or any other gadget to have fun.  It's a summer day and we're just hangin out.
These are all cousins-left to right-Rick on the bike, Linda, Uncle Clarence, Shelia, Me-looking down (in my smashing two piece) ha- and Debbie my sister (The Paint Splash)-looks like Deb found a ball.

Looks like Dad said "OK kids go line up by Uncle Clarence" and I'll take a picture. All of us spent many summers doing just this, sometimes going to the lake-swimming or fishing or having picnics.  And we all lived in different cities, we took the time to get together. Love it.

VINTAGE THINGIE THURSDAY 1947 Public Sale

What is everyone sharing today?  Suzanne @http//coloradolady.blogspot.com and I want to know!!!

Today I am sharing a public notice that my grandmother and grandfather posted for the sale of their farm and belongings in 1947.  This is the year I was born. Years later, because she kept everything, she made copies and had them framed for all of her grandchildren. (Around 40).

I often wonder how my grandmother felt leaving all of these belongings behind.

This was also Grandma Jewell's, a very decorative themometer in a frame. I keep this in my kitchen.

Hope you enjoy my vintage thingies today.

Outdoor Wed. - New Hosta Garden

Another wonderful Outdoor Wednesday with Susan @http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Come on over.

When we built our new sunroom last fall I had to totally transplant an entire garden.  I decided to use the space next to the garden shed.  The Hostas are doing well there.  I also added my metal sunflower to the wall and painted the stem and leaves.  Added a few poles with insulator caps for interest.
The Hostas are doing better in this area than they did all the years before!!

Have a great day OUTDOORS.

Wish I was "GONE FISHIN" On Blue Monday

Goin Fishin today with Sally @http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/.  Wish I was really!!!
I picked up this blue bottle a few months ago at a sale and had no idea what it was except I liked the color.  I decided to show it today on Blue Monday and thought I would look it up first just in case  I could find out anything about it.

I found plenty.  In 1866, doctors would carry a mixture around in a glass jar shaped like a fish.  ( FISCH BITTERS).  The mixture was for patients with dyspepsia, loss of appetite and an antedote to alchohol, plus other ailments.

Fish has been seen known to  represent  health, hence the fish shape.
In 1922, as with this bottle it was produced again in Melville, NJ by the Wheaton Company.  It is 7 3/8" tall and was used mainly for cod liver oil.

Inscribed on the bottle is DOCTORS FISH BITTERS. I paid $2.00 for it and they are worth anywhere from $50.00 up to thousands.  If you find a bright yellow one you have hit the jackpot.

Hope you enjoyed my BLUE MONDAY FISH STORY today. Have an excellent one.

Weathervane- Vintage Thingie Thursday

Good Morning Suzanne @http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/.  I'm anxious to see what everyone has posted.

I'm in my garden this morning and featuring a weathervane that I purchased about 30 years ago in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

I think this weathervane has sat in every nook in my house and garden.  I think I really like where it is now.It sits along side an old wagon wheel that I also really like.

Hope you all have a good day.

Outdoor Wed-Memorial Day Fun

Today is the day we share our favorite pics of everything outdoors-join Susan @http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/.

On Memorial Day we had a family get-together after going to the cemetery to decorate great-grandmas grave.  My granddaughters think this is a special day and love to walk around and see all the people honoring their loved ones. I really think this is a lost activity in our society today. This cemetery is always so manicured and there are attendants that ride around in go-carts in case you cannot find your loved ones marker.Later in the day we had a get together with family.
Smores (YUM)Who says I can't eat the whole thing at once. Just skip the graham cracker and chocolate.
Do you think he's going to loose that marshmellow way up
 there?

An old fashioned game of Ring-Around-The Rosie.
We had loads of fun and food with sisters, brothers in law, nieces, great nephews, children, grandchildren nephews, and spouses (one-ha ha).
Hope your day is fantastic.
