Lovely gift bag

Sometimes it's just a paper bag that is beautiful to me.  At a tea last weekend I won a door prize and it came in this beautiful paper gift bag.

Maybe it's because the bicycle reminds me of the one I had at 8 yrs old.  I still have that bicycle and it's in one of my flower gardens.  I love the pink - of course its a girls bike.

The bag shows everything I enjoy, a pot of flowers,  blue birds in the cute tree and a red bird on the ground.

What can I do with the bag?  Maybe just sit on the mantel and enjoy it for awhile.

Inside the bag was a lovely tea cup and English tea to enjoy.

We were served cucumber sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, scones, biscuits and a few other tiny desserts.  What a delightful tea.

Oh The Places I've Been

St. Elmo, Colorado--Colorado's original ghost town.

St. Elmo was founded in 1880 as a mining town.  During its heyday, the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad lines ran through St Elmo.  When the mining industry shut down the town closed too.

Each time we visit our Son and family in Colorado we make a trip to St. Elmo the deserted ghost town in the mountains.

The chipmunks rule the town and there are sunflower seeds for sale to feed them.

Oh how they love posing by the outhouse sign.

A great junk shop.

I did not get a picture of the school house so I located one from Wickepedia.

O is for Once

ONCE UPON A TIME

Can  you capture  the way you felt ONCE  in your past?

This was a magical gondala ride in the 1980s that my hubby and I  had in Venice, Italy on a month long vacation with our children and my Sister Deb and her family.

Since this time we have had two children grow up, marry and give us four grandchildren!!

We have had a magic ride.

Blue Hydrangeas

I was looking for some spring color for my vintage dough bowl this weekend and saw a bunch of these teal blue hydrangeas at Hobby Lobby.  They were 50% off which is always great.  I brought them home and took my wire cutters and separated the branches.

I was thinking about adding maybe a complementary color but I like the way it looks as is.

Newest Sewing Book

THE CUSTOM LOOK

1973

My newest addition to my sewing books, but this one looks like it could have been published in 2013.

The styles look so current, the sewing techniques so detailed I can't wait to use it.   There are whole sections on couturier fittings.

Some of the illustrations are lovely.

I'd wear this dress!

Looks at their hair--looks like 2013 styles.

N For Noted

ABC Wednesday Letter N

Noted  when  used as an adjective is: worthy of notice or attention.   Noticeable - capable  or worthy of being perceived.

I struggled finding a subject for the letter and then noticed this flag at half-staff on the school grounds.

I think this picture is notable for today!

Oz: The Great and Powerful

Being a big fan of "The Wizard Oz" this Kansas girl was excited to see the new movie "Oz: The Great and Powerful".  I really did enjoy the movie, but if your expecting the main characters of Dorothy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow you will be disappointed.

However, they did use references to these characters throughout the movie.  It's really fun picking out.

If you are going to see it, you MUST see it in 3D.  The poppy forest, the Emerald city and Oz come to life!!!

Finley was a favorite character of mine, he is precious.

Don't miss it on the big screen--the colors are brilliant.

M is for Motto

MOTTO

Do you have a motto you live by?

A motto is a phrase meant to describe your organizations intention.

Looking up in Wikipedia the different State Motto's.  Something very interesting, many of the states when they were formed based their mottos on faith.

Arizona - "Ditat Dues" latin for God enriches - 1863
Colorado - "Nil sine numine"-latin for Nothing without the Deity - 1861
Florida - In God we trust - 1868
Kentucky - "Deo gratiam habcamus latin for Let us be grateful to God
Ohio - with God all things are possible
South Dakota - Under God the people rule

President Eisenhower signed into law the United States Motto July 30, 1956 "In God we trust".

Our Son was in Cub Scouts.

My hubby Boy Scouts.

So proud of my hubby, he served in the United States Air Force

Their motto is "Aim High"

My daughter was in Camp Fire

NOW on a funny note I belong to the Red Hat Society and our motto is

How fun is that!!!!

ABC Wednesday - L is for Linger

Today I'm featuring the word LINGER for L.  This word doesn't come up lot in conversation but when it does I think it packs a punch.

To linger is to be reluctant in leaving, to want to remain longer than you can.  Has there been a point in your life you didn't want a situation to end?

Some great times come to mind- when our children were young and we want those memories to linger.  Maybe its a period in your life when you and your spouse had a marvelous adventure.

I'm  experiencing a different kind of lingering today.

My Mom is up here in the city in the hospital with blood clots in her lungs.  This is second time in the past year she has developed them.  She is 86 and I'm really feeling that I want to linger here with her as long as I can.  Its difficult when you have other responsibilities at home to take care of but also be with her.

I am so fortunate to have such special memories of my Mom all through my life, what a VERY SPECIAL lady she is.  I'm staying with her as much as I can and giving her my undivided attention.

Isn't she a cutie.  This was taken at Christmas last year.

Easter Foyer

Our church always decorates the foyer so lovely for Easter services. The grand piano is brought in with one of our pianists playing and lots of gorgeous flowers set all around.

My granddaughters posed with me for an Easter picture. Lots of blue clothes to go around.

We had such a wonderful day, great message, lots of delicious food and family.
