COMPETING COACHES - LETTER C

ABC Wednesday's featured letter this week is C.

We are big football fans here in our house as is practically all of America this weekend.  For the first time in the history of the Super Bowl the head coach for each team happen to be brothers.

John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens and Jim Harbaugh of the San Francisco 49'ers.

They are just 15 months apart, so many people at first believed them to be twins.

After reading this week about the brothers, I found a quote that their father always told them growing up-"Attack this day with enthusiasm and don't take any wooden nickles" - Jack Harbaugh.

Another C word for this week is Super Bowl COMMERICALS.

What is your favorite Super Bowl commerical.?

How about 1979, Coca Cola-Mean Joe Green

                   1984, Wendy's - Where's the Beef?

                    1995, Budweiser - Frogs

I think my favorite has to be the Budweiser Frogs!!!BUD-WISER.

Have a SUPER week.

Vintage Spools

I'm ready to start some new year decorating and I found six  vintage thread spools with thread at the Goodwill last week. They were $1.00 a piece and I have them displayed with a couple of large wooden spools.

There is just something about these old spools that I really love.

ABC Wednesday - B is for Boundless

BOUNDLESS

Our letter this week is b and my word is boundless.

What do you think of when you hear the word boundless?   I think of anything that I cannot put limits namely God's creation.

Merriam dictionary describes boundless as having no boundaries, vast. Synomyms are infinite,  fathomless, limitless supply.

I took this picture near my Son's home  a few summers ago. Do you see what I see? Boundless beauty with no earthly decription to do it justice.

Where will the road take you, the possiblities are boundless.

Hope you enjoy your week.  Linking with ABC Wednesday.

Blue Monday - KU

Well college basketball is well underway and the KU Jayhawks are off to a good start!! Maybe a rematch between KU and UK in 2013.

My sis Deb @http://thepaintsplash.blogspot.com is the artist in our family and she painted a KU on one of my granddaughters bedroom walls.  She painted this in about 30 minutes--turned out so cute.

I made her red and white checked curtains with blue trim and she has all the Jayhawk bedding.

ABC Wednesday - Letter A

A IS FOR ARCH-ROSEDALE WORLD WAR 1 MEMORIAL ARCH

I grew up and went to school in  small community within the city of Kansas City, Kansas.  Rosedale is the site of the Rosedale World War I Memorial Arch.  Our high school sits right behind this national arch on Mount Marty. Our yearbooks were named the Marty and I never really appreciated this site until I grew up.

I am trying to visit local landmarks in our area and learn to appreciate what lies right in front of me.

The memorial is 34.5" tall was was designed by a Rosedale resident, John Leroy Marshall in 1923. In 1993 a list of markers to honor Rosedale residents who died in WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam wars was added to the original dedication.

The arch sits nearby Rainbow Boulevard is named for the division who fought in WWI.

The 42nd Rainbow Division was formed in August 1917 from National Guard from 26 states led during the war by Douglas McArthur, the division was a prominent role in the final battle of WWI at Argonne.

Photos and statistics were gathered from the official website http://kansastravel.org.

Hope you enjoyed a little bit of Kansas history.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah-Letter Z

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah-Letter Z

This song is the cheerful way I want to begin 2013.  As a little girl I would sing this a lot, it still makes me feel really happy.

The Disney Movie this song is included in (Song of the South  1946) does bring controversy about slavery and Disney  has shelved bringing it out for us to purchase.  Although I NEVER knew any of this as a child, I just thought the music was so happy with the little blue birds!!

Zip A Dee Doo Dah won the academy award for best song in 1947.

On Wickipedia it names about 30 artists who have sang this song and the song has been used in numerous other pictures and Disney specials.

Disney had just started adding animation with live characters and received rave reviews for this.
The song also inspired Splash Mountain at the Disney theme park.

Hope this puts a cheerful tune in your step today.
